WIPWeld 11 (AWS E6011)

The WIPWeld 10 counterpart designed to take advantage of AC welding characteristics. An all-position electrode with deeply penetrating spray-type arc. Bead is flat with thin brittle slag. Weld has high tensile strength and ductility and is of X-ray quality. High melt-down rate and deposition efficiency due to the presence of iron powder in the coating. “Fast freeze” metal gives excellent weldability in vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions. Weld metal recovery with respect to the core wire is about 85%.

Applications and Directions

Storage tanks, boilers, pipes, galvanized plates structural steel, freight cars, heavy equipment, refinery structures, ships, barges, etc.

Use AC or DC reverse polarity (DC+). Maintain a short to medium arc. Hold perpendicular to the work surface and slightly incline in the direction of travel, keeping size of the molten pool small. Do not allow coating to touch pool. Clean each bead thoroughly before applying the next. Vertical welding can be done starting from the top or the bottom as the work requires. In overhead welding, best results are obtained by the multiple bead method.
