A medium coated rutile designed for shop work and general fabrication. The electrode is remarkably easy to manipulate in all positions with a soft and stable arc and minimum spatter loss. Striking and re-striking practically automatic. Beads are fine and smooth, requiring little or no finishing. The slag is self peeling or detaches readily with slight tapping. Fillets are concave to flat with no signs of undercutting. Weld metal recovery with respect to the core wire is approximately 95%.
Det Norske Veritas (DnV) : Grade 2
Lloyds Register of Shipping (LR): Grade 2m
Repair or maintenance work on mild steel equipment and machinery; general steel fabrication and assembly jobs as in the welding of jeep and auto bodies, water tanks, window frames, metal furniture, iron grills and fences farm tools, sheet metals, light steel construction, etc.
Use AC or DC both polarities. Maintain a short medium arc holding the electrode perpendicular to the work at an inclination of not more than 15 degrees in the direction of travel. For best results, joints should be vertical position free from rust, dirt, oil or grease. Welding from the bottom to top is recommended although vertical down can be down with smaller sized electrodes (3.25mm or smaller).
